We’re all familiar with the stellar international maisons of Bond Street, but there’s a wealth of independent local talent in Britain too, and they’re responsible for some truly noteworthy sparkle.
With designs that encompass everything from the sculptural to the elaborate, vintage-inspired to the resolutely modern, and the maximalist to the unashamedly pared-back, these are the British makers worth having on your radar right now.
DYNE

Jeweller Sarah Ysabel Narici may now be based in New York, but the British-Italian designer studied her craft at Central Saint Martins in London and her latest extraordinary DYNE collection has now been launched into the city’s lauded Dover Street Market.
Having honed her skilled at houses such as Stephen Webster, Marina Bulgari and Lorraine Schwartz before setting up her own company in 2022, Narici has struck a unique stylistic chord that fuses a fascination with ancient civilisations and symbolism, and a curiosity for the futuristic world of tech. Her newest collection, Immortality, explores ideas behind humanity’s eternal quest for longevity and features sensuously curvaceous gold pieces intersected with colourful, custom-cut gemstones to evoke the graphic patterns of ancient Egypt.
Lylie

Founded by fine jeweller Eliza Walter, Lylie aims to address the issues of sustainability that pervade the luxury industry. The B-corp certified brand produces its collections (as well as custom jewels and engagement rings) entirely from recycled gold sourced from E-waste, discarded dental fillings and an innovative in-house gold exchange, where unwanted jewels can be traded for brand credits. Alongside this, it uses exclusively lab-grown or repurposed vintage gemstones to create poetic and infinitely wearable pieces such as the newest collection, Chrysalis, which celebrates the opulence and natural motifs of Byzantine-era jewellery.
Ellis Mhairi Cameron

The designs of Ellis Mhairi Cameron are a tribute to her Scottish heritage, in particular the ancient history of her Highland homeland – a wild, beautiful landscape of windswept mountains bordered by the sea. Her sculptural, yellow gold pieces are infused with a tactile, organic quality, as if unearthed from a long-buried trove.
Indeed, Cameron’s latest collection, Armach (from the Scottish Gaelic word for ‘armour’), is an ode to a cache of ancient weaponry discovered on her family’s land and is replete with large, old-cut diamonds and saw-toothed suites crafted from 14k yellow gold, all designed to make their wearer feel empowered and beautiful.
Christopher Thompson Royds

Eternally inspired by nature, particularly the scenic English countryside where he was brought up, Christopher Thompson Royds sculpts gloriously elegant floral pieces from precious metal. His delicate daisy chain necklaces, rosy headbands and catkin earrings, accented with a sprinkling of white diamonds, boast a captivating realism – as if their botanical counterparts have been dipped in liquid gold to preserve them forever – and earned him a dedicated following amongst international art collectors as well as jewellery fans.
Aymer Maria

The jewels of Afro-Caribbean British designer, Ruth Aymer Marte, pay homage to her dual heritage and cultural roots. Aymer Maria‘s tactile, relic-like rings, pendants and earrings symbolise self-expression and empowerment, drawing their visual inspiration from sources as diverse as Greco-Roman motifs to the adobe structures prevalent in Sudano-Sahelian architecture.
Cece Jewellery

With a background in art history, it’s no wonder Cece Fein Hughes creates jewels that feel like wearable portraits. Since establishing her brand in 2021, Fein Hughes has seen extraordinary success with celebrities including Taylor Swift, Gigi Hadid and Tom Holland spotted wearing her meticulously hand-engraved and enamelled pieces inspired by lucky talismans, vintage tattoos and ancient folklore. Her latest collection, Extraordinary Lovers, sees her signature imaginative and story-telling style applied to a limited number of (customisable) chunky engagement rings, each set with 3-carat diamond and paired with a matching locket.
Polly Wales

London-born but now LA-based, Polly Wales is renowned for her whimsical and rebellious pieces, all embellished with colourful gemstones using a characteristic ‘cast, not set’ technique. In her hands, snaggle toothed skulls are transformed into playful talismans, industrial padlocks become elegant pendants and even politely traditional jewels, such as strings of pearls and charm bracelets, are infused with a punkier edge. Her latest collection, Wylie Beasts, sees a menagerie of nocturnal and naughty creatures such as toads, rats, monkeys and owls adorned with colourful sapphires and celebrated for their charm and wisdom, in order to “make the underdog in each of us feel seen,” she says.
