There’s an organic, tactile beauty to a new group of jewels by Jessica McCormack. Rounded, asymmetrical and oval forms pay tribute to shapes formed by nature, over time. McCormack also names the work of artists drawing from natural environments among her inspiration. “I have always loved the work of sculptors like Barbara Hepworth, whose forms feel so evocative of British coastal walks, hills and skies,” she says. “I wanted to create a collection that spoke to lovers of landscapes and found objects.”
First dreamt up and then realised at McCormack’s townhouse headquarters in London’s Mayfair, On The Rocks is made from yellow gold, white diamonds (baguette, oval and brilliant cuts feature) and clouded blue chalcedony. The latter gem is of a pale cornflower blue hue; oval in shape, it frames baguette-cut diamonds in two pairs of earrings and a pendant necklace. Says McCormack, “Chalcedony appears to me as a sky-hued stone, and marrying it with organic shapes and white diamonds has been in my mind for a long time now.”
Cast entirely from yellow gold, a second oval makes for a diamond solitaire ring (a corresponding pendant necklace comes with a gold chain); yet another band, The Five Stone ring, sees oval, baguette, and carré-cut diamonds set in gold.
