Rihanna chose to announce her third pregnancy in the most iconic way possible yesterday (May 5) – by making a stunning entrance at the Met Gala showing her baby bump while wearing a striking custom Marc Jacobs look and vintage Cartier jewellery.
The musician has a history of revealing her pregnancies on the biggest possible world stages: who can forget her last pregnancy reveal while performing at the Super Bowl 2023 half time show?
The news was confirmed by her partner A$AP Rocky who was also captured wearing Briony Raymond ahead of the most coveted red carpet event in the fashion calendar and who was one of the co-chairs of this year’s event alongside Domingo, F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, multi-hyphenate singer Pharrell Williams, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and honorary co-chair, the athlete LeBron James..
Chatting to reporters ahead of the event, A$AP said: “it’s time that we show the people what we was cooking up. And I’m glad everybody’s happy for us ’cause we definitely happy, you know.”
Rihanna arrived first at the Carlyle Hotel ahead of the Met Gala wearing a Briony Raymond antique Victorian ‘En Trembland’ diamond Brooch in 18 carat white gold and silver.
Later, on the event’s blue carpet, Rihanna arrived fashionably late (and hours after everyone else!) wearing a stunning custom Marc Jacobs suit. She sported a black bonded barathea wool Spencer jacket, a grey morning-stripe wool bustier bodysuit and a black pinstripes wool tailored skirt alongside a satin, polka dot cravat and a Marc Jacobs/Steven Jones custom hat.
To this, she added a high jewellery Cartier watch and pendant in 18k white gold and diamonds, a vintage Cartier watch brooch on a ribbon from 1925 crafted from platinum, white gold, onyx, enamel and diamonds, and a pair of diamond C de Cartier earrings.
The ‘Umbrella’ singer also wore a custom vintage ankle chain – check out the striking look here:
For 2025, the theme of the event was ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, inspired by the work of Monica Miller, a leading scholar of contemporary African American and Afro-diasporic literature and culture, and her 2009 work, ‘Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity’.
Previous themes have ranged from ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ (2015) – which examined the influence of Chinese art, film and culture on Western fashion – and ‘Camp’ (2019), to ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ from last year’s event.
It was a typically packed Met Gala with several standout moments. Diana Ross wowed on the red carpet wearing an 18-foot terrain adorned with crystals, while Pharrell wore a Louis Vuitton jacket adorned with 100,000 pearls.
Lewis Hamilton hit the red carpet wearing a striking jewellery look from Briony Raymond while Colman Domingo also made headlines wearing a custom Valentino look alongside some Boucheron, while a brooch specially created for the Met Gala with a diamond worth $20 million also got its first outing.
