Zendaya proved she is queen of method red carpet dressing with a vintage spider brooch design by David Webb from the 1990s for the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Shanghai. Get all the details on it below.

The reigning queen of on-theme carpet dressing (and her brilliant image architect) continues to slay. Zendaya attended the premiere of her latest film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Shanghai wearing a sizeable diamond-set spider brooch on her hip.
True to previous form, Zendaya picked a web-like mesh dress from the Atelier Versace Spring/Summer 2016 couture collection, which was credited by her image architect, Law Roach, on Instagram.
She had previously rocked a celestial-inspired vintage John Galliano dress from 1997 embellished with a web of delicate chains and tinkling bejewelled charms on its back for Spider-Man’s London premiere, and a sheer 1990 Giorgio Armani dress sequinned with a delicate web for the movie’s Italian event.
She adorned this with a huge spider brooch by the appropriately-named American jeweller David Webb, which was encrusted with circular and baguette-cut diamonds and set with a large central yellow sapphire. The piece was identified on the venerable jewellery house’s Instagram account as an archival piece from the 1990s, and even boasts articulated legs for an extra creepy-crawly effect.
The rare arachnids are seldom seen and highly sought-after. A similar piece by Webb, this time bearing a central cushion-cut Kunzite gemstone, went to auction in 2015 at Christie’s Important Jewels sale, where it sold for $77,500 (£58,121). Over a decade later, Zendaya’s yellow sapphire-set piece was last available at a price of $158,000.
Alongside this, the ‘MJ’ actress picked a shimmering timepiece from Rolex – she was announced as an ambassador (or, ‘testimonee’) for the Swiss watchmaker last autumn, and has been spotted in several of its watches since. Most recently, she and newly-minted husband, Tom Holland, donned matching Rolex watches for a Spider-Man: Brand New Day photo call in Berlin.
It’s been a huge summer for the star so far, with non-stop red carpet events and photo calls for the year’s biggest films. As well as Spider-Man, Zendaya has been promoting the Christopher Nolan-directed blockbuster The Odyssey, for which she’s been pulling out equally spectacular on-theme jewels and she’ll soon also be doing the junket rounds for Dune: Part Three, which premieres in December this year.
