‘Wuthering Heights’: Take a closer look at Margot Robbie’s vintage Boucheron brooches

At the London premiere of Wuthering Heights this week (February 5), Margot Robbie wore two vintage Boucheron brooches – check them out below.

The film released in UK cinemas next week, February 13, and sees Robbie star as Cathy in Charlotte Brontë’s seminal novel alongside Jacob Elordi who plays Heathcliffe. The film is directed by Emerald Fennell.

The first, the Walkyrie Brooch, from 1900, shows two Valkyrie heads framing a cushion-cut red garnet.

Messengers of the gods in Nordic mythology, Valkyries represent the ambivalence between life and death, heroism and repose. Recognixable by their winged helmets, they guide heroes in battle before ushering them into the afterlife. As a press release from Boucheron stated, “The emblematic Art Nouveau design lends itself to a sense of movement with flowing, cascading, windswept hair.”

The second brooch, the Assyrian Lion Brooch from 1920, Boucheron reflects the broad archaeological revival that rippled through Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

A Mesopotamian animal hunted by kings, the Assyrian lion became a symbol of sovereign power. With a snarling mouth and fierce gaze, it is set with a deep red ruby and surrounded by delicately engraved gold leaves.

Robbie also wore a replica of author Charlotte Brontë’s bracelet at the event.

For the premiere, which Robbie attended with co-star Jacob Elordi, Robbie wore a replica of a bracelet Brontë frequently wore which was made from the writer’s own hair.

The original was owned by Charlotte’s sister Anne and was a traditional piece of Victorian mourning jewellery. It was made from Emily and Anne Brontë’s hair, which was a traditional method used in Victorian times to remember lost loved ones.

The bracelet Robbie wore was made by Haworth’s ‘Wyedean Weaving’ which reproduced the style of the bracelet, the original of which is now 175 years old. The original bracelet is on display at the Brontë Parsonage museum in Yorkshire.

As per W Magazine, Charlotte was said to wear the bracelet “wherever she went” and was found in the Brontë home on the Yorkshire Moors.

Robbie wore a custom Dilara Findikoglu dress which was made from braided material that nodded to the bracelet’s unusual material.  Robbie also wore jewellery from Jessica McCormack, including a bespoke ring and earrings. The rope earrings were made of of garnets, diamonds and pearls. While the ring was a custom made four-carat ruby ring set in blackened gold.

Previously, Robbie has wore Jessica McCormack on the red capret at premieres – including the opening night to 2024’s Barbie movie where she wore some special heart-shaped jewellery.
