Amal Clooney returned to the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival 2026, bringing a dash of glamour to the first day of the event.

Alongside her husband of almost 12 years, George Clooney, the British-Lebanese human rights lawyer attended the premiere of Danny Boyle’s latest film, Ink, wearing a sleek black Tom Form column gown by Haider Ackermann.

She accessorised the custom-made, black silk taffeta gown with a set of Cartier diamond and emerald jewels, including a pair of drop earrings, cocktail ring and classic diamond bracelet, for a touch of Old Hollywood sparkle. Clooney has a longstanding relationship with the Parisian-based jeweller, having spoken at the brand’s international events, such as its Cartier Women’s Initiative in Milan, and worn their plenty of their jewellery on the red carpet.

Her longtime hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos, even joked earlier this year that the brand’s iconic Panthère timepiece had even inspired the lush new golden-brown tones he added to her latest hairstyle. “I wanted to subtly change Amal’s hair colour and length! La Panthère highlights are bold but at the same time look effortless and very elegant,” he said at the time.

Actor Clooney, 65, was honoured at the Film Festival’s opening event, receiving the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement on Wednesday, presented to him by his Jay Kelly costar, Laura Dern, who also read out a special message from Clooney’s Ocean’s franchise co-star, Brad Pitt.

“He can do, perform, accomplish, compete at most anything and does it better than any of us, but please, keep him off the dance floor,” Dern recited from a note shared by Pitt for the ceremony. “He doesn’t know. And now, this pigeon-toed kid from Kentucky, elder statesman, who when you can’t get Brad Pitt you know Clooney will show up because he never met an award he wouldn’t run to, is getting a lifetime achievement award? So why? Why do we love George Clooney?”

Pitt’s message ended: “He’s a rogue, a prankster, an altruist, an actor, an athlete. The only guy you’d want in a crisis… A father, a husband, a global citizen, a defender of justice, and . . . a really bad dancer.”
