Two royal weddings bookended the British summer of 2011. The first, in April, was the lavish ceremony of Prince William and Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey. The internationally televised event was attended by almost 2,000 guests, with many thousands more thronging the streets to catch a glimpse of the royal couple in their carriage (the day had been declared a national public holiday).

The second, on 30th July 2011, was the wedding of William’s cousin, Zara Phillips, and rugby player Mike Tindall, who tied the knot in a much lower-key affair at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh.

Despite its smaller scale, Zara Tindall’s wedding did have some fabulous royal flourishes – such as the bride’s beautiful diamond-studded tiara. The Greek Key tiara (AKA the Meander Tiara) was Zara’s ‘something borrowed’ for the day, loaned to her by her mother, Princess Anne.

But its history stretches much further back. Believed to have been created around 1900, possibly by Cartier (the historian Geoffrey C Munn has noted the similarity between its design and that of another tiara in Cartier’s records), the tiara is made up of diamonds set in a traditional ‘Greek key’ pattern (hence its name) punctuated with two honeysuckle motifs, and its central brilliant-cut diamond is framed by a laurel wreath.

The headpiece originally belonged to Princess Alice of Battenberg, mother of the late Prince Philip, who gave it as a wedding present to the then-Princess Elizabeth, when she and Philip married in 1947. It has remained in the British Royal Family’s collection ever since.

Though it’s not known if Queen Elizabeth ever wore the Greek Key tiara, her only daughter, Princess Anne, began to borrow the piece in the late 1960s. In 1972, the Queen officially transferred ownership of the tiara to Anne, who has worn it many times since – most notably for the State Opening of Parliament in 1970 and for her official 50th birthday portrait, taken by John Swannell in 2000.

In borrowing the Greek Key tiara from her mother for her 2011 wedding, Zara Tindall followed in the royal footsteps of both her mother and grandmother, who had also been loaned their nuptial tiaras. Princess Anne had borrowed the Queen Mary Fringe tiara from Queen Elizabeth for her wedding in 1973, much as the late Queen had borrowed the same tiara from her own mother when she married Prince Phillip in 1947.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce show off new wedding rings at first outing since their marriage

Just a week after they tied the knot at Madison Square Garden, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce showed off their wedding rings at the marriage of Kelce’s former teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster and Laura Kruk. Get all the details below.

It feels like a hot minute since Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce brought New York (quite literally) to a standstill with their celebrity-filled wedding at Madison Square Garden, but the happy couple have already been out and about, celebrating another marriage.

The “I Knew It, I Knew You” singer and her newly-minted husband attended the wedding of Kelce’s former teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster and Laura Kruk, where their gleaming gold wedding bands were on view for all to see.

Photos snapped at the event showed Swift, radiant in a pink floral gown by New York label Markarian, had stacked her diamond engagement ring alongside her new wedding band, whilst other images appeared to show Kelce, handsome in a slim-fitting black suit, flashing his gold band as he held up a parasol to shade himself and his new wife from the Californian sunshine.

Swift also appeared to be wearing a Cartier Love Unlimited bangle on her wrist – perhaps as a sweet symbol of her marriage to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.

Swift and Kelce announced their engagement last year with the ‘Love Story’ star posting a collage of pictures of them set to her song “High School Beau” which she wrote about the NFL star.

In the caption, she wrote: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

A close up image in the photo carousel revealed Taylor’s diamond engagement ring (as well as her diamond-encrusted Cartier watch) which had been created for Travis Kelce to pop the question by Kindred Lubeck. The New York-based goldsmith and jewellery designer specialises in unique gemstone pieces featuring delicate hand-engraving, which she sells under the label Artifex Fine Jewelry.

It was also revealed that Lubeck had designed Swift’s new vintage-inspired ring in collaboration with the loved-up Kansas City Chiefs player. The piece features a large old mine brilliant cut diamond, weighing at least 8 carats, and a delicately hand-engraved yellow gold band. Fellow designer Maddy Sangster, of UK jewellers Heavenly London, estimated its value to be “around £500,000” (around $673,600).

‘Brat’ singer Charli XCX marries George Daniel with a low key wedding band

Yesterday (June 19th) ‘Brat’ Summer star Charli XCX married her fiancé George Daniel, drummer of the band 1975, in a low-key and intimate wedding ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in London. Intriguingly, the singer’s wedding jewellery was similarly understated.

Going against the showbiz trend for extravagant wedding and engagement bands, Charli XCX’s wedding ring has been valued at a relatively modest $10-15,000. Seemingly crafted from twisted bands of platinum – much like a ‘Russian’ or trinity wedding ring style – its style provided a cool contrast to her dainty, diamond-set engagement band (which has previously been valued at $15-20,000).

Charli’s wedding look was typical of the rebellious singer, who opted for a corseted, ivory-coloured mini-length wedding dress by punk’s high priestess design, Vivienne Westwood, plus signature oversized black sunglasses for her big day. The 32-year-old star had previewed the bridal look in a TikTok video – in which she walks into a room dressed in her bridal ensemble and promptly struts out again – posted with a cheeky caption that read: “When george isn’t crying when he sees me walking down the aisle.” Another caption reassuringly read: “Luckily he did xx.”

The British musicians met whilst working together back in 2021 on the no Rome track ‘Spinning’, and confirmed their engagement in November 2023.

Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, has been creating hit-worthy tracks for well over a decade (such as 2012’s anthemic ‘I Love It’) but was catapulted into the mainstream spotlight last year with her sixth studio album, BRAT, which boasted bold, lime green cover art and roster of audacious, attention-grabbing beats such as ‘360’, ‘Von Dutch’ and ‘Sympathy is a knife’. At the time, the singer described the album as a celebration of “me, my flaws, my f-ups, my ego all rolled into one.” Since then, ‘brat’ has become a byword for accepting yourself and feeling comfortable in your own skin, including all of your mistakes.
